The Little Wins

Even though Phil the groundhog did not see his shadow a couple weeks ago, spring is not upon us yet. Just as we were getting used to some warmer days, Pennsylvania weather decided it was not quite ready for spring. It can be discouraging to feel so close to something, then realize you still have a considerable way to go…and no, I’m not talking about the weather.

The same principle applies to our lives because it is easy to get discouraged when things don't go as planned or we feel far from reaching our goals. How can we stay grounded when the journey feels arduous and we cannot see the forest through the trees?

Trust the process and take everything one day at a time. We often find that during the journey, our original intended destination changes along the way and so did we. We create a life for ourselves that we couldn't have imagined when the journey began. During the journey, find little victories in the ordinary. These little wins often add up to be big wins!

Here are some of the little wins from my life that enhance the journey:

  • Getting 8 hours of sleep and adequate time in the sunshine
  • Eating produce that my family grew in our own backyard
  • Seeing customers smile when they enjoy our food and similarly, when my kids enjoy the dinner I made
  • Spending uninterrupted quality time with my husband Isaac
  • Experimenting with a new recipe for the cafe that works the first time

What are little wins from your life that keep you grounded?
