A Tucker Family Adventure to Bethany Beach, DE

Marking the un-official end of summer, Labor Day with its long three day weekend was the perfect opportunity for one more family outing- this time, a camping trip! While the mountains have their own draw, a beach weekend camping trip was on our agenda. We packed up the car (thanks to Isaac’s parents for letting us borrow the teepee tent!) and headed for Delaware with Jane and Xayvion.

We stayed at a unique camping spot at Good Earth Market. Unlike your stereotypical campground, there are just 6 camping sites and a few tiny homes and cottages on property- in addition to a lovely farm market grocery store, restaurant, and small theater. Our first visit to this spot was in 2020- a perfect pandemic-friendly getaway for the family. Unlike some crowded campgrounds, the number of guests is limited by virtue of its smaller size. Hosting comedy acts and small bands, the owners’ goal is to bring the community together (similar to our intentions at Tucker & Co!).

Just four miles from the beach, we’d depart the teepee for a day on the sand-complete with delicious food from local spots (because we can’t not check them out!)

We got coffee from drifting grounds, an eclectic coffee shed sourcing its coffee from a local roastery in Delaware River. Don’t miss Pearl’s Corner upstairs for some light thrifting/antiquing.

We checked out Juice Box for more coffee, a fruity, fun, and fresh spot serving up (you guessed it) juices, smoothies, acai bowls, a full coffee bar, toasts, and healthful sandwiches (gf bead options) and salads. You might also try their all fruit, non-dairy “frosty” for a refreshingly nourishing sweet treat. Their cold-pressed juices come in an adorable branded glass jar.

On the beach we enjoyed boardwalk fries, while I got in some much needed beach-reading from my latest book, “Every Good Endeavor” by Timothy Keller. This nonfiction piece about living and working with purpose, suggests that your creativity, passions, and goals can overlap to fulfill a good greater than you might imagine.

We enjoyed a seafood dinner from Rope Walk on our first night, a local family restaurant with an array of fare, including land and sea. The menu is labeled with gluten-free friendly options.

Our second night we cozied up around our fire ring and roasted hot dogs and s’mores- can you name a more quintessential wrap-up to summer?

While we loved our end-of-summer visit to the beach, what we loved the most was getting to spend some quality time together as a family, having fun and making memories.Â
