"The ingredients matter." - Pecans Edition

For each batch of granola we use thoughtfully selected ingredients from suppliers that have the same passion and values of health and the environment as we do!

Our pecan suppliers out of South-Central Georgia have been growing pecans on their family-owned land for six generations (since the 1890s) and have expanded to also grow watermelons, cotton and peanuts, in addition to pecans.

The Wells family grows and harvests Elliot pecans, a tasty pecan variety and a local favorite to South Georgia due to its sweet, buttery taste and high oil content.

Not only are pecans a great source of fiber, antioxidants, and Omega 3 fatty acids, they add a sweet, and unique textured crunch to our granola nut varieties!

We asked Lenny at Limestone Creek Pecans three questions to share a little bit about their products, himself, and their business.

What did you want to be as a child and how did that transition to where you are now?

"I don’t think I knew exactly what I wanted to be as a kid. I just knew I wanted to work somehow in and with nature/the living world and wanted to do something in which I had a fair amount of freedom."

What is something unique you do behind the scenes that others would not expect?

"In addition to growing pecans I am a Professor of Horticulture at the University of Georgia."

What is special to you about your work that others might not know/ you want others to know?

"Growing pecans is much more complicated than it appears. The way you manage the trees in one year affects their production 2-3 years or more down the road."
